Brief Biodata
Dr. William E. Fry is a professor of Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology at Cornell University Ithaca,
USA. He obtained his B.A. from Nebraska
Wesleyan University and PG and Ph. D in Plant Pathology from University of Minnesota
and Cornell University. He worked as Assistant Professor at Central Connecticut State College
and Cornell University,
Department of
Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology and further as Associate Professor, Professor
and Department Chairman. Dr. Fry
served as Senior Associate Dean at College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Dean, Cornell University Faculty. He also
served on sabbatical leaves
at University of California, Davis (1978-1979),
Wageningen Agricultural
University, the Netherlands (1989-1990) and University of Stellenbosch, South
Africa (2007-2008).
Dr. Fry is decorated with several awards and honors as Member (1970), Sigma
XI, Fulbright Grantee (1989-1990), Fulbright Specialist (2016-present),
fellow of American Phytopathological Society (1990) and president (1995/1996), fellow of AAAS (February,
2010) and Scientific
Liaison
Officer (1999-2007) at International Potato Center. He is also honorary member
(2003) of British Society of
Plant Pathology and awarded Merit (Research) Gamma
Sigma Delta (1998), trustee, Cornell University Board of
Trustees (1998-2002),
Excellence in Graduate
student advising (2014),
Outstanding Service to CALS (2007)
and Chancellor’s
award for
faculty service (2012).
His areas of scholarship are epidemiology and management of
plant disease with special emphasis on
late blight of potato.
Biology (genetics,
developmental biology, ecology,
pathogenicity)
of
Phytophthora infestans.
He taught several courses like Plan
