Brief Biodata

Birth & Educations: Dr. Deeba Kamil was borne in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and obtained her Ph.D. degree from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, with specialization in Mycology and Plant Pathology. She joined the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on 21 April 2009 and has since been actively engaged in research, teaching, and institutional responsibilities in the field of plant pathology.

Awards/Honours: (1) Received DST Grant under Young Scientist category for International visit to Adelaide, Australia in 2011; (2) IPS M.K. Patel Memorial Young Scientist Award 2016; (3) Women scientist award- SURE Society, Varanasi; (4) ICAR-NET Qualified in Plant Pathology, 2009; (5) Editor of Indian Phytopathology Journal; (7) UGC research fellowship was awarded during Ph. D. in Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.

Research Areas: Dr. Kamil’s major research interests include Mycology, Molecular Systematics, Metabolomics, Genome Mining, and Biological Control of Plant Diseases. Her work integrates classical and molecular approaches to understand fungal diversity, elucidate mechanisms of biocontrol, and develop sustainable disease management strategies. She has contributed significantly to research on fungal antagonists, pathogen variability, and host–pathogen interactions.

She has successfully guided 4 Ph.D. and 5 M.Sc. students and is currently supervising 3 Ph.D. and 1 M.Sc. students. Dr. Kamil is also actively involved in postgraduate teaching, handling courses such as Advanced MycologyIntroductory MycologyPlant Biosecurity and Biosafety, and Biological Control of Plant Diseases. Her research outputs include high-impact publications in reputed international journals, with over 1200 citations.
