The Indian Phytopathological Society (IPS) is a professional forum for promoting the cause of science of Phytopathology. It s the third largest society of plant pathologists in the world. The Society was established in February 28, 1947 at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi by Dr. B.B. Mundkur, an eminent Plant Pathologist. Under the chairmanship of Prof. S.R. Bose, Dr. B.N. Uppal, Dr. A. Sattar, Dr. R.S. Vasudeva (members) with Dr. B.B. Mundkur as convener was formed to start publication of the journal “Indian Phytopathology” and takes steps for framing a constitution and by laws of the Society. Dr. B.B. Mundkur enrolled a number of mycologists and plant pathologists working in India and abroad. Industrial concerns interested in the subject were also approached to become patrons. The constitutions was ratified at the first annual general body meeting of the Society held on Jan. 2, 1948 were in 156 members (charter members) participated.
The Society is an international scientific organization devoted to the study of plant diseases and their control. Society advances modern concepts in plant health management in agricultural, urban and forest settings. Society provides information on the latest developments and research advances in plant health science through its journals and participates in the exchange of plant health information with public policy makers, and the larger scientific community; and provides opportunities for scientific communication, collaboration, and professional development. |

Dr. B.B. Mundkur |
The Society focuses on the field of Mycology, Fungal Pathology, Bacteriology, Virology, Phytoplasmology and Nematology. It provides a forum to the scientists to interact on important issues of Plant Pathological research, education and extension. The society organizes National and International conferences, symposia and seminars on major topics of Plant Pathology. Its nearly 2,000 members are located in more than 50 countries. They are made up of research scientists, teachers, extension professionals, students, private consultants, administrators, technicians, agricultural field representatives, and pest management personnel. Their professions vary, but they have one common goal – to promote knowledge of plant disease and their control. |

Society was registered on 3-11-1949, under the Societies
Registration Act XXI of 1860 with Registration No. S 399 of
1949-50. It is located at the Division of Plant Pathology,
Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi – 110 012. |
